Sie erfinden eine Geistergeschichte und verfassen gemeinsam ein Drehbuch. Einer von ihnen, ein vaterloses Kind namens Djibril, besucht das Grab des verstorbenen Filmemachers, kehrt aber nicht zurück. A trio of students are passionate cineastes, especially of the works of the late director Djibril Diop Mambéty. They invent a ghost story and write a screenplay together. One of them, a fatherless child named Djibril, visits the grave of the late filmmaker but does not return. His mother, a blind beggar, is worried and asks for help. A miracle occurs. Mambéty reappears, and like an angel, he flies over the city in search of the kidnapped boy…

Mambéty, eine herausragende Persönlichkeit des Weltkinos, ist vor allem für seine beiden Spielfilme Touki Bouki (1973) und Hyenas (1992) bekannt. Doch diese beiden außergewöhnlichen Filme erzählen nur einen Teil der Geschichte der enormen Leistungen des Regisseurs in seinem viel zu kurzen Leben. Zwei Meisterwerke der mittellangen Form (gemeinhin als Featurette oder moyen métrage bezeichnet), die Mambéty in seinen letzten Lebensjahren fertigstellte, vermitteln uns ein umfassenderes Bild der Elemente, die seine kleine, aber perfekte Filmografie ausmachen – eine reiche soziale Vision, verschmitzter Humor und formaler Einfallsreichtum. Mambéty wollte mit diesen Filmen ursprünglich eine Trilogie mit dem Titel „Tales of Ordinary People“ (Geschichten von gewöhnlichen Menschen) einleiten, konnte aber leider nur noch Le Franc und The Little Girl Who Sold The Sun fertigstellen.

Mambéty, a towering figure in world cinema, is best known for his two features, Touki Bouki (1973) and Hyenas (1992). Yet these two extraordinary films tell only part of the story of the director’s enormous accomplishments in his too-brief life. Two of the masterpieces of the medium-length form (commonly referred to as a featurette or moyen métrage) that Mambéty completed in his final years provide us a fuller picture of the elements that define his small, but perfect, filmography—a rich social vision, sly humor, and formal ingenuity. Mambéty initially meant for these films to lead off a trilogy to be titled “Tales of Ordinary People,” but sadly lived only to complete Le Franc and The Little Girl Who Sold The Sun.

Schon in seiner frühen Kindheit erzählte Seck gerne Geschichten und sein Traum, Regisseur zu werden, nahm bereits Gestalt an. Mit Mut verfolgte Seck seinen Traum und lernte durch Praxis als Regieassistent, Produktionsassistent etc. Vor einigen Jahren beschloss er, ermutigt durch den senegalesischen Filmemacher Alhamdou Sy, seinen eigenen Film zu drehen, Almadies Blues, ein Dokudrama, das die harten Lebensbedingungen der ärmeren Menschen neben den luxuriösen Residenzen im wohlhabenden Stadtteil Almadies zeigt. 2017 drehte und koproduzierte Seck seinen ersten Film mit dem Titel Djibril als Hommage an den verstorbenen Filmemacher Djibril Diop Mambéty.

In his early childhood, Seck liked telling stories and his dream to become a director already took shape. With courage, Seck pursued his dream and learned by practice as trainee director assistant, production assistant etc. Few years ago, encouraged by the Senegalese filmmaker Alhamdou Sy, he decided to make his own movie, Almadies Blues, a docudrama which shows the hard living conditions of poorer people beside luxurious residences in the wealthy district Almadies. In 2017 Seck directed and coproduced his first movie entitled Djibril in homage to the late filmmaker Djibril Diop Mambéty.
