Mohamed Bourouissa wurde 1978 in Blida, Algerien geboren und lebt heute in Gennevilliers, Frankreich. Seine künstlerische Praxis ist tief in intensiver Recherche verwurzelt. Er stellt Komplexität gegen vereinfachende mediale Darstellungen marginalisierter Gruppen. Seine Werke waren u. a. im Palais de Tokyo (2024), im Centre Pompidou in Paris und im Haus der Kunst in München zu sehen. Er nahm an internationalen Biennalen teil, darunter Venedig, Lyon und Berlin, erhielt 2020 den Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize und gewann 2022 den Paris Photo – Aperture Photobook Prize. Seine Arbeiten sind in bedeutenden Museen wie dem MoMA (New York) und dem LACMA (Los Angeles) vertreten.
Mohamed Bourouissa, born in Blida, Algeria in 1978, lives and works in Gennevilliers, France. His artistic practice is rooted in deep research and confronts simplistic media portrayals of marginalized communities. His work has been shown at Palais de Tokyo (2024), Centre Pompidou, Haus der Kunst, and major biennials in Venice, Lyon, and Berlin. In 2020, he won the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize and in 2022 the Paris Photo–Aperture Photobook Prize. His work is held in collections such as MoMA (New York) and LACMA (Los Angeles).
