In vorkolonialer Zeit entdeckt ein Hausierer, der die Savanne durchquert, ein Kind, das bewusstlos im Busch liegt. Als der Junge wieder zu sich kommt, ist er stumm und kann nicht erklären, wer er ist. Der Hausierer lässt ihn bei einer Familie im nächstgelegenen Dorf zurück. Nach einer Suche nach seinen Eltern adoptiert die Familie ihn und gibt ihm den Namen Wênd Kûuni (Gottes Geschenk) und eine liebevolle Schwester, mit der er sich anfreundet. Wênd Kûuni kann erst wieder sprechen, als er Zeuge eines tragischen Ereignisses wird, das ihn dazu veranlasst, seine eigene schmerzhafte Geschichte zu enthüllen.

In pre-colonial times a peddler crossing the savanna discovers a child lying unconscious in the bush. When the boy comes to, he is mute and cannot explain who he is. The peddler leaves him with a family in the nearest village. After a search for his parents, the family adopts him, giving him the name Wênd Kûuni (God’s Gift) and a loving sister with whom he bonds. Wênd Kûuni regains his speech only after witnessing a tragic event that prompts him to reveal his own painful history.

Kaboré ist ein angesehener burkinischer Schriftsteller und Filmregisseur, langjähriger Generalsekretär des Panafrikanischen Filmemacherverbandes (FEPACI) und Gründer des Imagine Film Institute in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, das auch ein kleines Filmarchiv umfasst. Er ist eine Ikone der Filmindustrie in Burkina Faso, weil er zu ihrer Entwicklung beigetragen hat (u. a. FESPACO seit 1978) und für seine preisgekrönten Filme, darunter: Wênd Kûuni, Zan Boko und Buud Yam.

Kaboré, is a distinguished Burkinabé writer and film director, Secretary General of the Pan African Filmmakers Federation (FEPACI) for many years, and founder of the Imagine Film Institute in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, which includes a small film archive. Iconic in the Burkina Faso film industry for his contribution to its development (including FESPACO since 1978) and for his award-winning films, among them: Wênd Kûuni, Zan Boko, and Buud Yam.
