Le Ballon D’or is a successful comedy-drama that follows the pragmatic upbringing of Bandian, a football-mad village boy who hopes for great things in the euphoric atmosphere in the face of Cameroon’s challenge for the 1990 World Cup. Bandian decides to move to the big city and comes under the influence of the businessman Béchir as well as the football manager Karim, who wants to promote Bandian’s talents for the good of African football. Doukouré traces the boy’s circumstances in scenes that reveal the power and humour of his unusual narrative style.

Danach führte er Regie bei Le Ballon d’or der mit 450.000 Zuschauern in Frankreich einer der erfolgreichsten Filme aus Afrika war. Im Jahr 2003 drehte er Paris selon Moussa (Paris nach Moussa), für den er bei der 18. Ausgabe des FESPACO mit dem Preis für den besten Darsteller ausgezeichnet wurde.

His screen writing credits include work on Jacques Champreux’s Bako, l’autre rive (1977) and Marco Ferreri’s Y a bon les Blancs (1987). Blanc d’ébène (White Ebony) marked Doukouré’s feature film debut in 1991. He then directed Le Ballon d’or which, with 450,000 admissions in France was one of the most successful films from Africa. In 2003 he made Paris selon Moussa (Paris According to Moussa) which earned him the Award for Best Actor at the 18th edition of FESPACO.
